Repetitive Strain Injuries

As the name suggests, RSIs are the result of repetitive strain on soft tissue or joints. Common RSIs include conditions like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Golfer’s and Tennis elbow, and Thoracic Outlet Syndrome to name a few. These can occur with leisure actives like sport or hobbies, but are most frequently seen in work environments. Vibrational equipment, sustained awkward postures, mechanical compression and longer hours at work can all contribute to the development of RSIs. In the early stages of these conditions, rest and medication can help alleviate symptoms. At their worst they may require surgery. Massage therapy can assist with RSIs by reducing tension in muscles, and helping clients with a self care plan that can include stretching or strengthening exercises and postural correction techniques.
