Membership Benefits

The Massage Therapists’ Association of Nova Scotia is the only provincial association run BY massage therapists, FOR massage therapists. The MTANS primary focus is on the issues and concerns facing the industry of massage therapy in the province of Nova Scotia.

Health Care Recognition

Major insurance companies recognize all members of MTANS as health care providers and provide billing privileges to our members. The members of the association have an esteemed reputation of providing quality care in a professional manner. MTANS is recognized by most employers and private insurance companies as the primary Association for Massage Therapists in Nova Scotia.

In addition to the Medavie Blue Cross online portal, MTANS members can access the Telus system for an online claim submission and reimbursement service for clients with benefit plans through the following insurance companies: Great-West Life, Desjardins Insurance, Industrial Alliance, Standard Life, Chamber Group Insurance, Cowan, Johnson Inc., Maximum Benefit/Johnson Insurance, Sun Life Financial and Manulife Financial.

Professional and General Liability Insurance

All active members of the Association are required to hold professional and general liability insurance. This is included in the membership fees or purchased at the member’s discretion resulting in a lower annual membership fee. Proof of purchase for other insurance carriers is required.

Fellowship with other Massage Therapists

Members are encouraged to develop friendships and working relationships with other members while keeping informed of current provincial and national issues affecting the practice of massage therapy today. Networking with colleagues at the Annual General Meeting, Continuing Education Conference, and at the Semi-Annual General Meeting of the membership is an excellent opportunity for this.

MTANS Member Services

Here on our website you will find a members-only section where you will have access to member information, course and event listings, classifieds, and a members-only forum. Frequent information updates are sent to the membership in our biweekly e-newsletter with free classified listings and current reminders about meetings, volunteer positions, upcoming courses and even research opportunities. MTANS keeps you up-to-date on the latest issues impacting the profession of massage therapy, both provincially and nationally.

As part of its responsibility to the public, MTANS sets minimum entrance to practice requirements and promotes continuous improvement of massage therapists knowledge, skills and abilities through continuing education and professional development.

As required by The Nova Scotia Department Of Education – Private Career Colleges Division, MTANS is asked to review curriculum delivered in Massage Therapy Programs in Nova Scotia and to review Instructor qualifications for Nova Scotia Massage Therapy Schools. MTANS is recognized by most employers and private insurance companies as the primary association for Massage Therapists in Nova Scotia.

Members can choose to include their names for referral purposes on the MTANS Website or through the MTANS Office. This service can be found here on the MTANS website as our Find-A-Therapist section.

Public Relations

MTANS works for you when you have to do other things. MTANS works to promote the practice of massage therapy, not only to the general public, but with other health professionals. It allows us to increase our profile in the eyes of the public and advertises on behalf of all massage therapists in the province. MTANS is also a part of the CMTA (Canadian Massage Therapy Alliance) which allows us to be part of a nationwide network of massage therapists. MTANS is the voice of the profession in Nova Scotia and speaks and acts on your behalf to all levels of government.
